Filters and effects

28th Sep 07
Over recent months, people have asked me why i only use filters on the camera instead of in photoshop?

The answer is quite simple really, using a filter over the camera helps balance out the light and dark areas.

A Neutral density graduated filter (my most used filter) is a piece of see through plastic that is placed over the front of the lens.
The top part of the the filter is darker (not unlike sun glasses) and the bottom part is clear with a gradual transition between the two at about half way down.
This reduces the glare from the sun or a bright sky and helps keep the ground and sky in balance so you don't end up with silhouettes on the ground part of the photo.
Using this method i am able to reproduce the scene at about 95% of how i saw it.

Recently a few people have also requested some strange effects in some of my photo's, so i have obliged!
Over coming months i will be adding some shots with computer generated filters and effects, these will all have a note below the photo to let you know which ones they are.
